Course-specific exam settings and exam-specific room scheduling preferences must be configured to support exam generation and scheduling.  Exam settings and preferences tell the system whether or not a course has a given exam and how to perform room scheduling for the exam.

The following components are required for exam scheduling implementation:

Exam Types

Exam Types define the kinds of exams included on your campus for any term and their default conflict and room preference rules.  Examples may include "Final" or "Mid-Term".

Course Exam Settings

Course exam settings define the exam types that are applicable per course based on its delivery method, meeting type, and the term type in which it is offered.

Exam Meeting Types

Exam Meeting Types are exam-specific section meeting types.  Exam Meeting Types allow the system to differentiate between regular section meetings and exam section meetings for the purpose of applying preferences and optimization.

Exam Meeting Types are generated automatically by the system during exam type and course exam configuration as a combination of the section meeting type and exam type.  Examples may include "LEC/Final" or "LAB/Mid-Term".

Exam Scheduling Preferences

Exam room scheduling preferences work the same way as other section room scheduling preferences, but are applicable only to exam meeting types.  When configuring room preferences within a preference set, scheduling rules must be created that are only applicable to specific exam meeting types.

Note that this is only required for exams that have separate room scheduling preference needs.  If exam meetings should simply inherit the preferences of, or be scheduled into the same room as the parent section, then this can be configured as the default rule at the exam type or course level.

Exam Meeting Patterns

Exam Meeting Patterns are day, time, and meeting type combinations that are valid to be associated with section meeting times during the time mapping process for exam generation.  Exam Meeting Patterns are defined by applying a flag to a meeting pattern to indicate "Is Exam".

Exam Security Settings

Exam security settings are provided within the role form to define access to exam configuration options as well as the extent to which a user may interact with exam meeting records.
